DOW MEDICAL COLLEGE

Dow Medical College (DMC) was founded in 1945, by converting the old medical school of Hyderabad, which was originally started by Dr. Homestead in 1881. Subsequently the College was shifted to function in old N.J.V. High School Building, Karachi, at the beginning of 1946. Dr. Hemandas R. Wadhwani, the Minister of Public Health and Medicine of Sindh Government took keen interest in the establishment of this institution along with Sir Hugh Dow, then Governor of Sindh, helped in establishing this college. The college was subsequently named after him.

Dow Medical College, is a Premier Medical Teaching Institution which has recently celebrated its 75th anniversary of establishment; that is a unique honour in itself. During these glorious years Dow Medical College has produced over 21000 medical graduates who have served not only the local community but the whole country and made their mark in global health care delivery. These Alumni are the greatest and the most reliable asset of the College. Being a Dow graduate myself, it is matter of pride and honour to lead my Alma Mater, and continue to build on the solid foundations laid by very worthy and honourable predecessors.

The emphasis of the College is on academics as structured basic and clinical teaching combined with empathy, service and character building to make our young graduate strive not only for success but for satisfaction and humane service in letter and spirit.

The College has produced many legends of Medical Profession in Pakistan and I am reasonably sure that the legacy will be carried on with aplomb.
