DOW MEDICAL COLLEGE

Dow Medical College (DMC) was founded in 1945, by converting the old medical school of Hyderabad, which was originally started by Dr. Homestead in 1881. Subsequently the College was shifted to function in old N.J.V. High School Building, Karachi, at the beginning of 1946. Dr. Hemandas R. Wadhwani, the Minister of Public Health and Medicine of Sindh Government took keen interest in the establishment of this institution along with Sir Hugh Dow, then Governor of Sindh, helped in establishing this college. The college was subsequently named after him.

Dow Day Care Center

The Dow Child Day Care Center was established by Dow Medical College in 2019. The aim is to ensure work compliance of all the employees, particularly working mothers by providing high quality full day child care services. It provides child care services to infants of age 3 months to 5 years. The child day care center maintains good hygienic environment by following standard child care practices under supervision of trained professionals.

It also promotes early childhood development by providing and engaging children with early learning toys and videos. It accommodates around 20-25 children, including 10 infants. Moreover, low child and attendant ratio ensures quality care and attention to each child. Continuous surveillance of day care children and attendants through security cameras is in place to prevent any maltreatment or negligence. Additionally, effective temperature regulation in day care protects children from the effects of extreme climate inside the premises.

The day care center follows all the infection control guidelines in routine to avoid possible disease outbreaks. Moreover, the facility follows well-defined immunization and sick-child policies to ensure children health and safety.

This facility is directly supervised by the administration of Dow Medical College. The guardian/ mother of the child must be an employee of DUHS, posted at Dow Medical College / Dow Dental College or a Post graduate trainee working at Dr. Ruth Pfau CHK. Applicants are supposed to follow a standard admission procedure. The admission is provided “on first come, first serve basis” without any discrimination among the employees.

The facility continuously strives for improvement and welcome feedback from consumers of services/ guardians of children through formal channels.
