Department of Clinical Haematology & Bone Marrow Transplantation


Haematology is the study of blood and blood disorders. These vary from anemia to diseases such as leukemia. While many of these patients are undergoing investigations and treatments for blood cancers, others have non-cancerous disorders. There are patients with some blood disorders who may require bone marrow transplantation for getting cure from their diseases.

Introduction


Hematology is the study of blood and blood disorders, which can encompass a wide range of conditions, including anemia and diseases like leukemia. While many of these patients undergo investigations and treatments for blood cancers, others are dealing with non-cancerous disorders. Some individuals with specific blood disorders may require bone marrow transplantation as a potential cure for their ailments.


The Department of Clinical Hematology and Bone Marrow Transplantation was established at the Ojha campus of DUHS in December 2018. It was officially inaugurated on April 20, 2019, by the current Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Mr. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, and the Chief Minister of Sindh, Mr. Syed Murad Ali Shah. This department represents the first clinical Hematology program in the public sector, offering comprehensive facilities for the treatment of patients with blood diseases, all conveniently located under one roof, ranging from outpatient consultations to bone marrow transplantation.
