Research Interest
Dr Shumaila Aman has completed her PhD in Pharmacology from Dr Panjwani Center for Molecular Medicine and Drug Research, University of Karachi, and is associated with DUHS as Assistant Professor of Pharmacology in Dow College of Pharmacy since 2015. After her PhD, she was recommended by Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC) for interim placement at Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS), Karachi, Pakistan as an Assistant Professor of Pharmacology. After successful completion of her HEC interim tenure and achieving the HEC Research grant she has been appointed as regular faculty at DUHS. During her stay at DUHS she was awarded the Chinese Government scholarship and went for her Postdoctoral Research degree from TCM and Ethnomedicine Innovation & Development International Laboratory, Innovative Drug Research Institute, School of Pharmacy, Hunan University of Chinese Medicine, Changsha, Hunan, China. During her stay in China, other than her novel research, she also worked as a visiting faculty in a Medical and Pharmacy College and participated as a speaker in international conferences in China.
From 2015 to date at DUHS, her success stories include securing HEC research grant, Chinese govt scholarship, supervision of an MPhil student and multiple ongoing research projects. Her research focuses on pharmacology of inflammation, platelet aggregation, and thrombosis and signal transduction during aggregation, and complications of cardiovascular diseases. During her doctorate, she worked on antioxidant, antiplatelet and phosphodiesterase inhibitory potential of different drugs, developed the assay for antiplatelet activity, and monitoring the release of ATP during platelet aggregation. During her post-doctorate, she has research experience involving cancers understanding at molecular level, complications of inflammation during cancers, molecular mechanisms as well as molecular and environmental impact over it.
