DEPARTMENT OF PHARMACOLOGY

Meeting Board of Studies Department of Pharmacology held on  5th January 2023:The experts from the University of Karachi, Department of Pharmacology, Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and ICCBS, HEJ and Jinnah University for Women were invited and the internal members also participated. The agenda were discussed asper the academic activities.

 

 
New First Year Batch Orientation Day was organized on 15 March 2023 by Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Dow university of health sciences, Karachi.

Prime Minister's Program Green Youth Movement Club DUHS "Clean and Green Karachi, What Our Youth Do On Sustainable Development Goal " on 31st May, 2023.

Certificate and prize distribution ceremony of proposal writing competition on “Clean and Green Karachi”, Prime Minister’s Program of green youth movement club (GYM-DUHS) was held on 31st May 2023 at Dow College of Pharmacy, Dow University of Health Sciences.

 

Open house session was organized on 8 June 2023 for M.Phil and PhD Program by Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Dow university of health sciences, Karachi.

Department of Pharmacognosy

On 28th -29th October 2022, Department of Pharmacognosy arranged a two days workshop on “Natural Medicine: Current and Future Perspective”.

 

Students’ industrial visits to Brookes Pharmaceuticals and Martin Dow Limited were arranged in the months of November 2022 and January 2023 respectively.

 

 

Students’ Indus Hospital Visit

Hospital visit is an important phase of learning. It provides student an exposure of the different practical approaches applied in clinical settings. The basic goal of hospital visit is to observe how the theoretical approaches studied during university, are being implemented in practical environment.
A visit to Indus Hospital was organized by Dow College of Pharmacy, Dow University of Health Sciences on from 15-18 March 22 for final year students. During the visit, students were shown how the range of clinical services are performed in hospital. The Indus Hospital and Health Network is a tertiary care multidisciplinary hospital and healthcare system in Pakistan. It is located in Korangi. It is the first paperless hospital in the country; the hospital has an e-cardiology system.

Orientation Day of New batch 2021

Orientation Day of Pharm-D students (Morning and Evening Batch) at Dow College of Pharmacy was held on Friday 17, 2021, Dow University of Health Sciences. Vice Chancellor, DUHS, Prof. Said Qureshi, Principal, Prof. Dr. Sumbul Shamim, Dean, Prof. Dr. Noor Jahan graced the orientation day along with Faculty members of Dow College of Pharmacy. Prof. Dr. Sumbul Shamim urged the students to focus on education with absolute dedication and diligence. Prof. Dr. Noor Jahan felicitating the fresh entrants to the varsity.

Green Youth Movement Club

The Green Youth Movement Club was inaugurated on Nov. 2021 at Dow College of Pharmacy as per the Prime Minister’s Program Titled as “Kamyab Jawan of Pakistan” with the collaboration of HEC for the Higher Education Institutions and Universities. The Plantation Drive was conducted and Pro-Vice Chancellor, DUHS, Prof. Dr. Nusrat Shah was the Chief Guest of this Program.Students participated in the plantation of medicinally important plants.

 

 
DUHS- DICE (Distinguished, Innovation, Collaboration and Entrepreneurship—2021)

The Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) in collaboration with Distinguish Innovation Collaboration & Entrepreneurship (DICE) foundation (a USA based nonprofit organization) organizes DUHS-DICE Health innovation Exhibition every year to promote health innovation culture in Pakistan.
Basically, the idea behind the event is to motivate academia, industry, government, entrepreneurs and expatriates to come to a common platform to showcase health innovations and technologies, share knowledge and further collaborate with each other for the rapid development of health innovative products, necessary for the economic development of the country.
 

 

 

Convocation 2021

On 18TH December 2021 Convocation of graduates of year 2020 and 2021 were given their degrees in the convocation of DUHS. The Convocation Patron Inchief was Hon. Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Saeed Qureshi. The Chairman of this convocation was, the Pro Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Zarnaz Wahid and Secretary was the Principal Dow Internation Medical College Prof. Dr. Fouzia Perveen. The Chief guest was Governor Sindh, His excellency Mr. Imran Ismail and the guest of Honor was the Provincial Health Minister of Sindh Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho.
Five M.Phil degrees and 275 Pharm. D Degrees were given to the candidates.

Guest Lecture by Dr. Tariq Mansoor
Deapartment of Pharmacy Practice organized a lecture on “The Basic clinical concept of parenteral nutrition” on 20th January, 2020 at Dow College of Pharmacy, DUHS. Principal, Prof. Dr. Sumbul Shamim, Dean, Prof. Dr. Noor Jahan and Faculty members along with students attend the session. Dr. Tariq Mansoor, Senior In-Charge Pharmacy Department, University Hospital Sharjah, Sharjah, presented lecture. He is certified nutrition support Pharmacist (BCNSP). Dr. Tariq also trained at world’s leading cancer-research institutes and the premier European Cancer Centre, Institute Gustave Roussy Grand in Paris France.
He is very active member of JCIA accreditation process at UHS and chair of P&T committee. 
 

 
Industrial Visit to Herbion Pharma Pvt. Ltd

Industrial visit to Herbion Pakistan (Pvt.) Ltd. was organized by Deapartment of Pharmacognosy, Dow College of Pharmacy, DUHS on 21st January 2020. DUHS-DICE Health Innovation exhibition 2019

5th All Pakistan DUHS-DICE Health Innovation exhibition held on October 16th and 17th 2019 at the Expo center Karachi. The exhibition was inaugurated by Ali Akhai, head of the internationally renowned pharmaceutical company, Akhai Pharmaceuticals. Faculty and students of Dow College of Pharmacy enthusiastically participated in the event and presents their projects. 

 

 

World Pharmacist Day 2019

World Pharmacists Day 2019, Organized by Dow College of Pharmacy (DCOP) held on Saturday, 5th October, 2019 at Ojha Campus, Dow University of Health Sciences. The aim of the celebration was to raise awareness about the important role of pharmacist in healthcare system. The walk started from Dow University Hospital and ended up at Dow College of Pharmacy. The walk was led by Pro Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Kartar Dawani, Principal Dow College of Pharmacy, Prof. Dr. Sumbul Shamim, Dean Dow College of Pharmacy Prof. Dr. Noor Jahan. Senior faculty members, administrative staffs and students attended the Walk and Seminar.

 
 

 

Department of Pharmacy Practice

Guest Lecture at DCOP, DUHSGuest lecture on Antibiotic resistance and importance of stewardship program was organized by Department of Pharmacy Practice, Dow College of Pharmacy on 2nd May 2019. The guest speakers were Dr. Shobha Luxmi, Assistant Professor, Department of infectious diseases Dow University Hospital and Sidra Khan, Manager Pharmacies at SIUT. The speakers focus on the primary goal of the antimicrobial stewardship program is to optimize clinical outcomes while minimizing unintended consequences related to antimicrobial usage, such as toxicities or the emergence of resistance. The lecture ended with the question and answers.

 

 

 

Dow University students and Pakistan Navy team up for beach cleanup, plantation drive at Manora


In line with the government of Pakistan’s vision of ‘Clean and Green Pakistan’, Pakistan Navy in collaboration with Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) conducted 'Tree Plantation and Beach Cleaning Activity' at Manora Island with Commodore Vaqar Muhammad graced the occasion as the chief guest on 28 April 2019.
A large number of Pakistan Navy officers, men along with faculty members and students of Dow University of Health Sciences participated in the campaign.

Guest Lecture at DCOP, DUHS
Guest lecture on Pharmaceutical Sciences in the next Generation was organized by Department of Pharmaceutics, Dow College of Pharmacy, DUHS on 23rd April 2019. The guest speaker was Obaid Ali, Civil Service Officer at Drug Regulatory Authority Pakistan (DRAP). The lecture ended with the question and answer session.

 

 
Guest Lecture by Dr. Hamid Merchant    

Guest lecture was organized by Dow College of Pharmacy on 18 November 2019. The guest speaker was Dr. Hamid Merchant from Hudderfield University, UK. Dr Merchant joined the University of Huddersfield in October 2013 and is currently working as a Subject Lead in Pharmacy and Course Leader for the Postgraduate Pharmacy Suite. He has a formulation sciences background with extensive experience both from industry and academia. He presented proposals for postgraduate education at UK for Dow Pharmacy graduates.

 

 
Guest Lecture by Dr. Shazia Jamshed

Another guest lecture was organized by Department of Pharmacology on 3rd December 2019 at Dow college of Pharmacy, Dow university of Health Sciences. Dr. Shazia Jamshed is an Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmacy Practice, School of Pharmacy, International Islamic University, Malaysia, presented a lecture on “Antimicrobial stewards: Opportunities and challenges”. Dr Shazia primary research interests encompass generic medicine utilization, pharmacy education and practice-based research. Over the past two years she has worked on the issues associated with care perspectives in oral health, Alzheimer’s disease, alternative therapies, self-medication practices, radiopharmacy and antibiotic resistance. The session ended with question and answers.

 

 

 

2018

Talent Show at Dow University of Health Sciences

Talent Show held on 10th November, 2018 at Muin Auditorium, DMC Campus, Dow University of Health Sciences. Talent show was attended by the Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Saeed Qureshi, Pro Vice Chancellors Prof. Dr. Khawar Saeed Jamali, Prof. Dr. Zarnaz Wahid, Prof. Dr. Kartar Dawani, Prof. Dr. Shaheen Sharafat, Principal and Dean Dow College of Pharmacy Prof. Dr. Sumbul Shamim along with senior faculty members and students. 

Hassan Bukhari and Bisma Fatima from Dow College of Pharmacy, DUHS stood first position in singing. In sketch competition second position was awarded to Sehrish and team from Dow College of pharmacy.

 

 

Farewell Celebration at Dow College of Pharmacy

1st official farewell celebration of Batch 07 was held on November 7, 2018 at Imperial Marquee Banquet. Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Saeed Qureshi, Pro Vice Chancellors Prof. Dr. Khawar Saeed, Dean Dow College of Pharmacy Prof. Dr. Sumbul Shamim, CEO of BROOKES Pharmaceutical's and Senator Abdul Haseeb Khan graced the occasion along with Faculty members of Dow College of Pharmacy.

The students entertained the audience with the performances they had prepared for the event such as: skits, singing performances and title dedication which allowed the participants to laugh and enjoy the evening. The evening concluded with reception of delicious food.

 

 

4th DICE Health Innovation Exhibition 2018

Like last year, this year's DICE Health event was a huge success. The 4th DICE Health Innovation Exhibition 2018, held on October 12 to 13 at Expo Center, Karachi, organized by Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) in collaboration with DICE Foundation.The exhibition was showcasing over 150 Innovative Research based Projects from more than 35 universities across Pakistan. These projects have been prepared by students under the guidance of faculty members. The exhibition also provided with free medical and dental checkups, workshops and seminars (CMEs). Moreover, the students of National Institute of Science and Technology (NUST), Islamabad, Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Science and Technology and other renowned universities and institutions of Pakistan take part in DICE to present their projects. Not only Pakistan, students from two universities of Malaysia and educational institutes of China were also showcasing their projects.Faculty and students of Dow College of Pharmacy enthusiastically participated in the event and presents their projects.

 
 

Department of Pharmacognosy Guest Lecture by Dr. Mansoor Ahmed

Guest Lectures on Case Study was organized by Dow College of Pharmacy (DCOP), Department of Pharmacognosy on 30th April, 2018. The guest speaker was Dr. Mansoor Ahmed, Meritorious Professor and Laureate of Presidential Award - a staunch supporter of herbal medicine. He explained guidelines for case study. Facilitator was Ms. Umbreen Farruk, Assistant Professor, Dow College of Pharmacy, DUHS. The session ended with the question and answers.Our beloved teacher and mentor Dr. Mansoor Ahmed laid to rest on 24th September 2018. Dr. Mansoor Ahmed was a globally recognized scientist in the field of pharmacy and herbal medicine. His contribution and services for the promotion of these fields will always be remembered.

BAYER PHARAMCEUTICAL PAKISTAN

For this purpose, industrial visit was organized on 5th September 2018 by Dow College of Pharmacy, Dow University of Health Sciences for final year students.Bayer is a research-based, growth-oriented global enterprise with core competencies in the fields of health care, nutrition and high-tech materials. BOSCH PHARMACEUTICALS PVT LTD

Another visit to Bosch Pharmaceuticals was organized by Dow College of Pharmacy, Dow University of Health Sciences on 13 September, 2018 for final year students. During the visit, students were shown how the daily activities are performed in different pharmaceutical settings like testing of active ingredients by QC, granulation, coating, vial filling, sterilization, packaging etc. The students had the opportunity to see and learn more about the equipment used for the pharmaceutical processes and analysis.Bosch Pharmaceutical was established in 1994, it is one of the fastest growing national pharmaceutical companies. It owns a state of the art manufacturing facility. It is the first pharmaceutical plant in Pakistan to have seven separate sterile manufacturing facilities, along with two separate manufacturing plant for oral and parenteral penicillin formulations and separate manufacturing areas for cephalosporin, quinolones, ophthalmics and aminoglycosides Penicillin. Bosch is also having the honor to be the first Lyophilized manufacturing unit in Pakistan. Bosch Pharmaceuticals is the only company in pharmaceutical industries which is halal certified to satisfy patients through strict halal and hygienic condition. Their source of API and excipients is also halal.

DOW COLLEGE OF PHARMACY STUDENTS PARTICIPATION IN 1ST NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON “CURRENT RESEARCH AND PRACTICES IN PHARMACEUTICAL SCIENCES” – SINDH UNIVERSITY, JAMSHORO

The faculty and students of Dow College of Pharmacy, Dow University of Health Sciences actively participated in 1st national conference arranged by the Faculty of Pharmacy, Sindh Uinversity, Jamshoro on 3rd – 5th November 2017. In this conference 1st prize for the best poster was won by the students of Dow College of Pharmacy.

 

 
 
 
 

3RD ALL PAKISTAN DICE HEALTH INNOVATION EXHIBITION 2017

The Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) in collaboration with DICE Foundation, USA organized a 3rd event of DICE Health 2017 from 22nd - 23rd December, 2017 at DUHS Ojha Campus, Karachi. Dow University of Health Sciences successfully organized two All Pakistan DICE Health Innovation Exhibition in the year 2015 & 2016 at Expo Centre, Karachi.

Participation was incredible across different Industries and Universities / Institutes (Medical, Bio-Medical, IT, Engineering & Technology etc) from all over Pakistan.

The idea behind the event is to motivate academia, industry, government, entrepreneurs and expatriates to come to a common platform to showcase health innovations and technologies, share knowledge and further collaborate with each other for the rapid development of health innovative products, necessary for the economic development of the country.

The faculty and students of Dow College of Pharmacy as always actively participated in DICE Health 2017.
