Dow College of Pharmacy

Dow College of Pharmacy was established in 2007. It was based on the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences The college is a distinguished and well renowned entity established under the umbrella of Dow University of Health Sciences and recognized by Higher Education Commission (HEC).

Student Life

University life is the main foundation of building a professional attitude. At university, students have the opportunity to pursue their academic interests and gain knowledge and skills that will help them to achieve their goals. University life is also about making new friends and building social networks. Students from diverse backgrounds and cultures interact with each other which help them to broaden their horizons and develop intercultural competencies. 
 
At DCOP, the academic environment is challenging and expects students to think critically and creatively. DCOP offers a student life that can be tailored to their preferences. Students will find it easy to engage themselves in exciting opportunities and experiences at DCOP such as Hospital and Industrial visits, workshops, seminars, symposiums etc. Various extra-curricular activities including 14th August celebration and Cultural week etc. have been organized for or by DCOP students where they can show their skills and talent.

HOSPITAL VISIT

Hospital visit is an important phase of learning. The basic goal of hospital visit is to observe how the theoretical approaches studied during university, are being implemented in practical environment. A visit to Indus Hospital was organized from 9-11 March 23 for final year students. During the visit, students were shown how the range of clinical services is performed in hospital. 

 

INDUSTRIAL VISIT

Students’ industrial visits to Brookes Pharmaceuticals and Martin Dow Limited were arranged in the months of November 2022 and January 2023 respectively. Such industrial visits offer an opportunity to learn the practical aspects of the industry by observing working methods and employment practices. DCOP students visited various departments of these industries including Production and Quality Control. Students were demonstrated about different testing procedures and SOPs that are required to adopt while working in a Pharmaceutical Industry. 

 

ORIENTATION DAY 

Orientation day was organized and celebrated every year to welcome the new batch of Pharm. D. students.

 

14th AUGUST CELEBRATION

DCOP Students have always showed their love for the homeland Pakistan and participated actively in 14th August celebration.

 

CULTURAL WEEK CELEBRATION

The students of Final year Phar.D. also get a chance to celebrate Cultural week to celebrate many different cultures that make up our community.

 

PARTICIPATION IN WORKSHOPS & SEMINARS AT DUHS    

One-day hands-on workshop was conducted for 4th and 5th Prof. students on “Research advancements in pharmaceutical chemistry” (series 2: molecular docking & analysis) on 28th October 2022 organized by Department of pharmaceutical chemistry, DCOP, DUHS.

•    An interactive seminar on “Hormonal health concerns” was organized by Department of pharmacy practice on 5 Nov 22 at Building C, DCOP. 

 

•    An interactive seminar on “Regenerative Medicine: New Frontiers in Medical Biotechnology” was organized by Department of Pharmaceutics on 10 Nov 22 at Building C, DCOP. 

•    2 Days pharmacognosy workshop on “Natural Medicine: Current & Future Perspective” was organized by Department of Pharmacognosy on October 28 – 29, 2022 at Dow College of Pharmacy, Dow University of Health Sciences, Karachi, Pakistan. 

 

PARTICIPATION OF DCOP STUDENTS IN RESEARCH & POSTER COMPETITIONS OTHER THAN DUHS

•    Undergrad students of DCOP have participated in 2nd Undergraduate Poster competition held at Hamdard University on 18th July 2023 and won 1st and 2nd prize.
•    DCOP Students have won 1st and 3rd prize in Proposal Writing competition on “Clean and Green Karachi”, Prime Minister’s Program of green youth movement club (GYM-DUHS)

i) Interdepartmental sports Activities

  • Indoor games championship for faculty was organized by the DUHS in February 2022.
  • Students’ sports activities are organized annually in the university. DCOP students have always been actively participating in the sports activities.
  • The Dow Premier League (DPL) was held from May 16–31, 2022, in which the students of Dow College of Pharmacy actively participated in the following sports/games:

  2. Cricket (Girls)
 

Cake Cutting Ceremony at Dow College of Pharmacy

14th August is a day of pride for all of us. Dow college of Pharmacy arranged a small get together and Cake cutting ceremony.
 

 

14th August Celebration 2018

The 71st Independence Day of Pakistan was celebrated with national spirit and enthusiasm at Dow University of Health Sciences, Ojha Campus. Students of DMC and ojha campus displayed their spirit and patriotism by singing national songs and chanting patriotic slogans. Students of Dow College of Pharmacy also performed skits and tableaus on the event, which were widely appreciated by the audiences.
 
 

 

Declamation Contest

Pakistan Independence Day Celebrations, Declamation Contest was held on Saturday 11th August, 2018 at Arag Auditorium, Dow University of Health Sciences, DMC Campus. Students of both campus, DMC as well as Ojha Campus were participated in the contest. The event was attended by Prof. Sumbul Shamim, Prof. Fouzia Imtiaz, and Prof. Mukarram Ali along with senior faculty members. The Declamation Contest conducted on account of Independence Day Celebrations declares the students of the team of Dow College of Pharmacy, Mohammad Anas and Tooba Ahmed as 1st in the contest.

 

6th September Celebration

6th September, Pakistan’s Defense Day is celebrated in Pakistan as National day to commemorate the sacrifices made by Pakistan soldiers in defending its borders.
Dow College of Pharmacy organized an event in the memory of sacrifice of beloved soldiers and to celebrate victory.

 

 

Annual Sports Week 2020

Annual sports 2020 of Dow University of Health Sciences will be held on 3rd Feb to 8th Feb 2020, in which 13 different colleges and institutes of DUHS perticipated. The Vice-Chancellor of DUHS, Prof Mohammed Saeed Qureshi, officially marked the beginning of the sports week at the Sports Gymnasium, Ojha Campus. There will be different competitions featuring indoor as well as outdoor games including table tennis, squash, netball, throwball, cricket, basketball, volleyball, football, badminton and many more. 
Prize Distribution Ceremony of Annual Sports 2020, Dow University of Health Sciences, held on Tuesday 18th January, 2020 at Muin Auditorium, DMC Campus, Dow University of Health Sciences. Dean, Dow College of Pharmacy, Prof. Dr. Noor Jahan won 50 meter female faculty race. Badminton Female was won by Dow College of Pharmacy, DUHS. Girls of DCOP take the title of winners in Net ball as well as in Basketball. Sumbul Zehra was declared as the Best female athlete. Mr. DUHS won by Hamza Mallick of DCOP. 
 

 

Farewell Celebration 2019

2nd official farewell celebration of Batch 08 was held on 18 October, 2019 at Meadow Banquet. Pro Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Khawar Saeed Jamali, Principal Dow College of Pharmacy Prof. Dr. Sumbul Shamim, Dean Dow College of Pharmacy Prof. Dr. Noor Jahan and Senator Abdul Haseeb Khan graced the occasion along with Faculty members of Dow College of Pharmacy.
