Research Interest

Ms Tehseen Quds has been working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacognosy at Dow College of Pharmacy since 2010. She recently submitted her PhD thesis as she completed her MPhil in Pharmacognosy from the University of Karachi in 2009. Previously she worked at Jinnah University for Women as an assistant professor and lecturer, where she ran the department of Pharmacognosy efficiently and got a certificate of appreciation for her dedicated efforts. She also worked in the Pharmaceutical industry, has remarkable experience working in the Quality Control and Quality Assurance department, and has a keen interest in herbal research.

•    Took part as an organizer in conducting the workshop “Natural Medicine: Current and Future Perspective” held in the Department of Pharmacognosy on 28-29 October 2022.

•    Took part in the preparation of M.Phil. and Ph.D. courses in Pharmacognosy.
•    Participated in designing Pharmacognosy lab manuals.
•    Played a significant role in the arrangement and maintenance of the Herbal medicinal garden.

Brief Statement of Research Interest

The reason to come towards herbal research in Pharmacy is that Natural medicines are the only alternative source to the conventional medicine system. Natural medicines are playing a big role in pharmaceutical industries and biotechnology and open the tremendous path of exploring the cure of different diseases which were not possible by conventional medicine yet. Brief examples of such diseases are cancers, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, autoimmune disorders, and different nervous and peripheral system-related problems. Since the last two decades, peoples are more relying on natural medicines due to the increased side effects associated with modern medicines. My future goal is to explore the cure for different problems by use of herbal medicine as well as assess the toxicity associated with them by doing standardization practice as the general concept is prevailing in the general public that they are safe and they are using
them without any prescription and awareness of their correct dose and deleterious side effects.
