School of Dental Care Professionals

The concept of four-handed dentistry has been given much importance with the development of improved care in clinical practice and has modernized and evolved in the past few years. This development has led to the discovery of the School of Dental Care Professionals. It is approved and recognized by Higher Education Commission Pakistan as a degree-awarding institute.

Healthcare systems worldwide depend on the infrastructure and resources and the availability of skilled human resources with varying roles, functions, and training periods, all working together in a team to treat patients. In dental health care systems, auxiliary means “persons who work in a team with the dentist in patient treatment.” Such persons may play their role as Operating Dental Auxiliary, such as Dental Hygienist, or Non-Operating Dental Auxiliaries, such as Dental Laboratory Technologists.

I am privileged to be part of the team to carry out the Dow University of Health Sciences vision under the dynamic guidance and supervision of our Honorable Vice Chancellor, Prof Dr Muhammad Saeed Quraishy. The vision of the Dow University of Health Sciences is in line with the global requirement of the health care systems, and we are privileged to play our role in providing outstanding patient-centered education, training, and clinical care through our well-structured dental auxiliary taught degree programs, faculty, and staff.

We have an excellent team of instructors, qualified Dental Hygienists, and Dental Laboratories Technologists who have developed the skills of being an all-rounder in not only student teaching and patient care but also administering, conducting, managing, and coordinating all kinds of other necessary activities such as research and community-based dental services. We strongly believe in encouraging our faculty in life-long learning, capacity building, development, and progress as individuals and as a team.

This is why we do not find our faculty sitting idle but keep on striving and finding ways to improve their capacity and be productive in the workplace. This quality has started reflecting in our students, who, other than their formal learning, also participate in activities that strengthen their learning and benefit society. One such activity is participating in community-based dental health education and promotion program activities by teaming up with dental surgery undergraduate and postgraduate students. I hope the School of Dental Care Professionals will flourish further, and shortly, we may be able to start master-level programs in dental hygiene and dental technology.
