The School of Public Health (SPH) was founded in 2012, where Public Health Researchers, Academicians, and Graduates are expected to play a vital role in shaping the future of healthcare in Pakistan.

Internship Program

Internship in Clinical Dietetics

Internship is an integral part of clinical nutrition program and is designed to provide interns with an opportunity to integrate and apply previously acquired knowledge and technical skills in actual clinical settings. Under the guidance of experienced clinical nutrition professionals, dieticians and other qualified personnel and health professionals, interns learn more about nutrition care process, food services including food management, food hygiene, food safety and evaluation of dietary orders. The internship program is conducted in the affiliated hospitals or primary health care facilities of the program, where interns learn by participating in the workload of a supervising nutritionist/ dietician / specialist/consultant. Emphasis in each internship discipline is given on: a) organization of work, b) use of standard dietary methods, c) correlation of physical and laboratory parameters for patient’s nutritional requirements, and d) the establishment and use of programs for quality control and preventive maintenance for food services and its safety.

Internship in Public Health Nutrition

The purpose of internship or training is to enhance and develop practical and professional skills for those students who opt to follow Public Health Nutrition track in the undergraduate degree (BS- Nutrition) program. ). It will provide students with an opportunity to integrate and apply class room learning with practical and technical skills in practice within the domain of public health organizations working in Pakistan. Our purpose is to equip our students to be able to identify and assess nutrition needs of the community by mobilizing community partnerships and action to identify and solve health problems within the context of Pakistan. They will also be trained to develop effective health and nutrition education and promotion materials within the local context. The internship program is conducted in the affiliated government, private health organizations, industry, corporate sector and health care institutes, where interns learn by observing, interacting and participating with health care professionals.

 

Green Youth Movement

The Green Youth Movement (GYM)-club is an initiative of the Prime Minister's Youth Program. The program aims to enable youth in the country to spearhead sustainable environmental conservation and eco-friendly behavior among the masses in the country. The initiative is also a means to transition toward sustainable development goals (SDGs) # 6, 7, 9, 11, 12, 13, 15 & 17.

In 2021, GYM-club was launched at the School of Public Health (SPH), Dow University of Health Sciences, Karachi. It was inaugurated by Mr. Mustafa Nangraj, Director Information, Agriculture Extension, Sindh Hyderabad & Deputy Program Coordinator Nutrition Sensitive Agriculture, who highlighted the importance of linking modern agriculture practices with human nutrition.

Dr. Sumaira Nasim is focal person of GYM-Club at SPH, facilitating the students to arrange different activities related to environment.
