Overview

The Science of Dental Materials Department deals with both undergraduate and postgraduate students. In the four years BDS program, the Science of Dental Materials is taught to second-year students. The primary purpose of this course is to provide the students with basic knowledge of Dental Materials concerning their structure, behavior, manipulation, and applications. Moreover, students are given hands-on training in all materials in the pre-clinical laboratories, which will ultimately result in the delivery of quality dental treatment in a community.

In addition to regular lectures and practical classes, various teaching aids such as tutorials, presentations, and small group discussions are used to bring about a sense of competence and confidence among candidates. The assessment of undergraduate students is based on written examination, objective structured practical examination (OSPE), and periodic internal evaluation.

The Department also offers a Master of Dental Science (MDS four years) program in Dental Materials under the supervision of Higher Education Commission (HEC) approved supervisors. This program aims to produce knowledgeable, research-oriented, and inventive scholars and teachers. Our MDS students are provided with a wide range of research facilities at the well-equipped laboratories of the Dow University of Health Sciences. Furthermore, the Department has got research collaboration with the NED University of Engineering and Technology and also with the Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR).

The Department's faculty members are well-educated and highly skilled at teaching, edifying, and enlightening their students.
