Oral Pathology is the branch of pathology that deals with the nature & diagnosis of diseases affecting oral and maxillofacial regions. It investigates the causes, processes, and outcomes of the conditions. This subject prepares the students to identify any abnormality present in the oral and maxillofacial region during their clinical practices so that it can be managed appropriately.

This subject is taught in second-year BDS. The department also offers research programs, including MSc and MDS. It represents the keen interest of the faculty in the generation of new knowledge that expands the breadth and depth of dentistry. We instill cutting-edge research into undergraduate and postgraduate students. Our departmental faculty includes investigators whose research covers topics such as diagnostic technologies for early detection of oral cancer or premalignant lesions, trials to develop new medications for oral mucosal disorders, molecular pathology and genetics of oral carcinogenesis, oral mucosal lesions, odontogenic cysts/tumors and bone disorders affecting maxilla & mandible, autoimmune diseases.
