Overview
Oral Biology is an undergraduate/graduate program in basic sciences, integrated with the curriculum of First Professional year BDS. This field is concerned with the study of the nature of the oral and craniofacial tissues and the application of basic scientific knowledge to oral tissues in health and diseased states. It is a full year course that includes the study of dental hard and soft tissue. Oral Histology covers the embryology, structure, composition and functions of the oral cavity's cells, tissues and organs. Tooth Morphology involves teaching shapes and morphological aspects of each tooth individually, which is enhanced by tooth carving skills on wax blocks. This subject provides the basic knowledge of the above mentioned areas and also highlights its relevance to the clinical field. By its nature, Oral Biology is a field that overlaps the Basic Medical Sciences and Clinical Dental Sciences.
