Prof. Mohammed Saeed Quraishy, Meritorious Professor of Surgery & Vice Chancellor, Dow University of Health Sciences is a graduate of Dow Medical College. After the completion of his MBBS in 1983, he headed for his fellowship training and research to the UK, leading to a fellowship degree in the year 1987.

With a strong commitment to the institution that is Dow, he joined Dow Medical College as Assistant Professor and started teaching and training. Meanwhile, he also pursued his own training in the field of laparoscopic surgery and was elevated to Professor of Surgery in 2002.

As Medical Superintendent of Dr. Ruth K.M. Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi, a complex health care organization and the largest public sector hospital in Karachi, he has ensured a high quality of care, despite resource scarcity. Most notably, his improvement projects include – a fully equipped and modernized gastrointestinal investigation unit, having a full range of endoscopic procedures.

His commitment to Dr. Ruth K.M. Pfau Hospital is an example of his commitment to the community, and is recently reflected in the development of the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Trauma and Accident Centre which offers emergency services, a project of Government of Sindh for which he worked tirelessly to materialize.

Also, under his supervision, 17 trainees have obtained FCPS and MRCS. To his credit, more than 60 international papers are published in peer reviewed journals. He has also organized and participated in number of conferences, seminars, symposiums, and workshops on national and international levels.

The Role of Vice Chancellor

Prof. Dr. Mohammed Saeed Quraishy, Meritorious Professor of Surgery was officially appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of the Dow University of Health Sciences in May 2017.

The Vice-Chancellor is the Principal academic and executive officer of the University. He chairs the Syndicate and Academic Council of the University, the Selection Board of Faculties and the Finance & Planning Committee of the Council. Amongst the chief tasks of the Vice-Chancellor are to:

• Provide leadership both in academics and administrative to the whole University.
• Represent OR nominate to represent the University externally, both within Pakistan and overseas.
• Secure a financial base, sufficient to allow the delivery of the University’s mission, goal and objectives.
• Carry out certain important ceremonial and civic duties in addition to academic activities.
• To provide research friendly environment at the university.
• To ensure Quality Control over financial, academic and managerial activity carried out in the University.
