The Directorate of Research was incepted at the time of the establishment of the Dow University of Health Sciences to promote research and innovation within the university. Whereas, the Office of Research Innovation and Commercialization was established in 2011 and it continues to capitalize on the future, aiding research advances to sustain Dow University’s reputation as a distinguished public university.

Director's Profile


Dr. Kashif Shafique is a highly experienced public health professional and a Professor and Principal at the School of Public Health, Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) in Pakistan. Dr. Shafique also serves as the Director of the Office of Research, Innovation, and Commercialization (ORIC) at DUHS, where he is responsible for promoting and supporting research activities among faculty members and students. He is a highly trained researcher and a Master Trainer for PhD supervisors’ training, which demonstrates his expertise in developing and delivering high-quality research training programs. He has over 15 years of experience in epidemiology, research & scientific paper writing, a PhD in public health with an extensive experience in conducting research activities in Pakistan. Additionally, from 2013-2022 he was the Visiting Clinical Senior Lecturer at the Institute of Health & Wellbeing, University of Glasgow, United Kingdom. More recently in 2022 he was appointed as an adjunct faculty for the Khyber Medical University.

Prof Kashif received his MBBS degree from Dow Medical College, Master of Public Health   and PhD in Public Health from the Institute of Health and Wellbeing, Public Health, University of Glasgow, Glasgow, United Kingdom. 

Prof Kashif’s research focuses on chronic disease epidemiology and health risk behaviors. He has authored over 55 research papers in national and international impact factor journals. He is also the Editor of a national health sciences journal, an Associate Editor of an international impact factor journal, and an Academic Editor of a Global Public Health journal. For his outstanding contributions to postgraduate teaching and research productivity, he was honored with the “Best University Teacher Award” by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan in 2018. He has also won a global competition of young scientists to participate in the 64th Nobel Laureates Meeting organized by Lindau Nobel Laureates Foundation, Germany. He also received the “Early Career Award” from the International Society of Behavioural Medicine and the “Future Cancer Research Leader” award from the International Agency for Research on Cancer. He has given several invited talks, lectures, research presentations, and public awareness sessions. He has consulted as Principal Investigator on public health research projects for EMRO-WHO, HEC, and Martin Dow.
