Dow College of Biotechnology Student got 3rd Position in 1st International Conference held at Salim Habib University

DCoB final year students, Kissa Zehra, Muhammad Bilal, Farwa Naz, Rahaima Ahmed, Laiba Azhar, Unzila Khan, Asna Noman won Silver Medal (second position) at 1st International Conference of Salim Habib University for Poster Presentation entitled "Bioinstrumentation innovation for fragrance creation; Introducing Hasht essence extractor". 

Drosocan (An In vivo system for carcinogen detection) Won first position in Interuniversity Hult Prize Competition

Drosocan (An In vivo system for carcinogen detection, basic research funded by VCSFI) developed at Dow Fly Research Lab and Stock Center, Dow College of Biotechnology Won first position in Interuniversity Hult Prize Competition.

4 projects of DCoB were placed in Top 50 in the National Idea Bank Competition

4 projects of DCoB were placed in Top 50 and of these 2 projects of 3rd Year Students (Azka, Fatima, Shahama, Hafsa, Zunaira and Shaheer) and Final Year student (Ashad and Ushna) stand in Top 30 in the National Idea Bank Competition, the students and supervisor were invited at the President House for the award ceremony.

Dow College of Biotechnology BS final year students; Urooj Shahid, Saniya Taj and Saba Jamshad successfully presented their research work in Oral Presentation at the 4th International Conference on Biological and Applied Science (IBRAS-2024), Jinnah University for Woman.

Dr. Urooj Javed has successfully published her research in "Frontiers in Plant Science"

We are proud to announce a significant achievement from one of our esteemed faculty members, Dr. Urooj Javed.
Dr. Urooj Javed, an Assistant Professor at Dow College of Biotechnology (DCoB) - DUHS, has successfully published her research in the renowned "Frontiers in Plant Science"
Title of the Research: “Expression of sucrose metabolizing enzymes in different sugarcane varieties under progressive heat stress". Impact Factor: 5.6
This remarkable accomplishment reflects her dedication to advancing knowledge in the field of biotechnology.

Dow College of Biotechnology Student got 3rd Position in Intra DUHS National Song Singing Competition

Dow College of Biotechnology BS 1st Year student Taha Shakir got 3rd Position in  Intra DUHS National Song Singing Competition organized by DUHS Literary and Debating Society on 76th Pakistan's Independence Day Celebrations.

It is a matter of pride that in the Green Youth Election, All Positions Captain, Vice-Captain, Theme Cordinator and Media Cordinators are won by DCoB students. Well done all!!!

It is our pleasure to announce that The Dow Fly Research Lab & Stock Center at DCoB has been included in the #Global Flylab list by FlyBASE.  
FlyBase is the major Database of All Flylabs in the world. This put our flylab at global canvas.

Best Research Poster PRIZE Won at MMDR event ICCBS, University of Karachi.

We are pleased to share the news that Sukaina Arshad (BS Final Year Student) Won the Best Research Poster PRIZE at MMDR event #ICCBS, University of Karachi. Her work revolves around whole genome sequencing and funational annotation and genomics of Mitochondria of #Drosophila strain Anu-1 developed at Dow Fly Lab. Very Well Done Sukaina, you made whole #DCoB faculty very proud as #MMDR is the biggest and the most competitive scientific event of #Pakistan. 

With pride 50 posters were presented by the DCoB at Annual Research Day

With pride out of nearly 400 posters from whole DUHS presented at Annual Research Day, around 50 were presented by the DCoB, of these, 9 were selected in top 20 and 3 were judged as winners, out of 10 of the Competition. Many Congratulations Hira (Alumini and current MPhil student), Tasbie (BS Final Year Student) and Ayesha (MDS student).
Rest of the Students also did excellent efforts, and we are certain that from this event you will learn the caveats in your presentations and try to cover the gaps.

 
NIB competition, the first three positions

It is a matter of great pride for the whole Dow College of Biotechnology (DCoB) that in the NIB competition, the first three positions have been awarded to projects originated and nurtured at DCoB.

FIRST PRIZE: Dow Fly Research Lab and Stock Center.

SECOND PRIZE: Spirulina Barr.

A MILESTONE HAS BEEN ACHIEVED
Dow University of Health Sciences, Faculty of Dow College of Biotechnology is pleased to share that Ms.Iffat Waqar (Alumni and MPhil scholar of DCoB and Ms. Sukaina Arshad (BS final year student at DCoB) have successfully drafted the complete Mitochondrial genome of indigenously developed fly line of Drosophila melanogaster (white eye mutant), sequenced using NGS platforms.
The full draft of the genome has been reviewed by NCBI and released yesterday (Accession number OR555819). This makes the first drafted eukaryotic genome of DUHS and first of any model organism from Pakistan. The faculty of DCoB congratulate Ms. Iffat and Ms. Sukaina for this achievement.

Signing Ceremony of Memorandum between Dow College of Biotechnology and Sindh Institute of Animal Health 

Memorandum of Understanding has been signed on 14th June, 2023 between DCoB and Sindh Institute of Animal Health for joint research activities on Poultry and Live stocks Vaccine Development and training of DCoB undergraduate and postgraduate students.

   
 
Inauguration of an AI based Image Processing Web Tool "Makkhimeter"
The Vice Chancellor of DUHS inaugurated an AI based image processing tool namely "Makkhimeter" on 14th June, 2023. It quantifies the morphometric variations in the Drosophila melanogaster which represent different human disease conditions. DCoB is the first to develop an AI tool at DUHS showing their commitment to align themselves with future core of research and development. This makes us more proud that two of our final year students Anisa Mahmood and Sukaina Arshad are the part of team that develop this application.

Dow College of Biotechnology Students won 2nd Position in Prime Minister's Program of Green Youth Movement Club

Dow College of Biotechnology 2nd Year students Rehman Yousuf, Alishba khan, Syeda Maidah batool,Khadija Aslam, Shehrbano;Shahid won Second Prize in Prime Minister's Youth Movement Club under the theme "The clean and green karachi what our youth can do?" at Department of Pharmacy, Dow University of Health Sciences on 31st May 2023.

Dr. Sadaf Khan (Associate Professor) at Dow College of Biotechnology won Research Grant from Health Research Iinstitute (HRI), National Institute of Health (NIH), Islamabad under the title: Polymorphisms in IFN-y and IL-10 genes and risk of Mtb infection in type II diabetes patients in Karachi, Pakistan.

Dr. Rafat Amin (Associate Professor) at Dow College of Biotechnology won Research Grant from Health Research Iinstitute (HRI), National Institute of Health (NIH), Islamabad under the title: “Novel approach to combat antimicrobial resistant fungal infections by epigenetic regulation; Expression profiling of Histone deacetylases and screening of novel deacetylases inhibitors as potential therapeutic agents for antifungal resistant C. albicans infections”
 
 
Dow University of Health Sciences achieved another milestone on Friday 20 January,2023 with the inauguration of an Advanced Molecular Genetics and Genomics Disease Research and Treatment Centre, Dow College of Biotechnology and Dow Fly Research Lab and Stock Center, by The Honorable Chief Guest Prof.Ahsan Iqbal Chaudhary. The facility included a college of Biotechnology and a Fly Research Lab and Stock Centre.
