Overview
The branch of dentistry encompasses dento-skeletal deformities, improper bites, and malposed teeth. The unique opportunities for the students to direct their interest to such diverse specialty areas like removable appliances, fixed appliances, functional and orthopedic appliances, bone physiology, growth and development, development of the dentition, interceptive orthodontics, types of malocclusions, anchorage provisions, retention requirements, cleft lip and palate patients, orthogenetic surgery, biomechanics, the biology of tooth movement, muscle physiology, speech, and behavioral science. Patients are treated with state-of-art orthodontic appliances. The department deals with the training of final-year BDS students to have a basic knowledge of the field. Students complete a total of 8-9 weeks of clinical rotation in the department and accomplish their clinical requirements. Besides the students, the house officers are also posted for a 2-month rotation in which they learn and perform diagnosis and treatment planning of orthodontic patients to gain knowledge in the field. Postgraduate students of MDS are actively involved in academic sessions like article discussions, seminars, symposiums, and treatment planning sessions.
