Dow University of Health Sciences, Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) is an undergraduate degree that prepares students to become dentists. The program typically lasts around four to five years and includes both theoretical and practical training. Students learn about subjects like anatomy, dental materials, oral pathology, and more. Clinical training is a significant part of the program, where students work with patients under supervision. After graduation, students usually undergo an internship or residency and then pass licensing exams to practice dentistry legally. BDS graduates can work in various settings, including private clinics, hospitals, and research institutions, with opportunities to specialize in areas like oral surgery or orthodontics.

• HSSC (Pre-Medical)/ A-Level or equivalent examination duly certified by IBCC with minimum 60% marks as per PM&DC rules and regulations.
• Candidate’s Domicile of Karachi.
• Father's Domicile of Sindh.
• MDCAT passed score as per PMDC rules & regulations.

• Holds permanent foreign nationality or is an overseas Pakistani.
• Studied and passed HSSC 12th grade examination or equivalent from an institute outside Pakistan.
• HSSC (Pre-Medical)/ A-Level or equivalent examination duly certified by IBCC with minimum 60% marks as per PM&DC rules and regulations.
• MDCAT passed score as per PMDC rules & regulations OR qualify SAT-Il with minimum score of 550 in each subject or a foreign MCAT examination or UCAT examination with 50% marks in the prescribed subjects.

Total Credit Hours = 164

Dentistry as a profession places an individual at a unique place in society. As a student, a dental surgeon gets to treat patients instead of just observation. Later on, a dental surgeon can start his solo career much earlier as compared to his medical colleagues. 

There are multiple career pathways that one can choose. These range from private practice to academic positions in teaching institutes or a combination of both. As an interim, one may choose to pursue specialization or a research qualification in basic sciences. Better still some prefer government jobs or civil service. A minority find themselves in pharmaceutical industry. I have seen all to be doing well. Therefore, in my opinion the opportunities are endless. 

More importantly, a career in dentistry can provide you with a balanced lifestyle between your work, family, and social life. In addition, dentistry allows you to be your own boss if you choose to do so by owning your own practice.
